Gym Membership or Personal Trainer? How to Decide
Trainable Editorial

This decision is usually framed as a budget question. It is really a question about what is currently stopping you from training.
If the barrier is knowing what to do
A trainer is worth more than a membership. A short block of sessions to learn the main lifts and build a programme you can run alone often does more than a year of unguided access.
If the barrier is turning up
Booked classes beat open gym access. A class at a fixed time with other people in the room creates an appointment; a membership creates an option.
If the barrier is a schedule that keeps moving
Look for pay-per-session or pay-per-class options and venues near your office as well as your home. A membership you visit twice a month is the most expensive training there is.
The common answer
Most people do best with a mix: a small number of trainer sessions to set direction, plus classes or gym access to do the volume. Build it as one plan rather than three separate subscriptions you forget to cancel.
